Proudly a Family-Run, Woman-Owned Company
Truchan Towing & Recovery holds a special place in Jersey City’s towing history.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Anthony P. Truchan, Jr. originally founded what is now Truchan Towing & Recovery as Truchan Brothers Auto & Towing in 1985 alongside his brother, Peter Truchan.
Anthony discovered his passion for the auto repair industry during high school, when he would fix cars out of his family home garage as a teenager. After completing high school, Anthony founded Truchan Brothers Auto & Towing at the young age of 19 years old, in a 2-bay garage on Coles Street in downtown Jersey City.

Fueled by passion for the industry, it didn’t take long before Anthony’s auto repair and towing business outgrew this small garage. He soon after moved Truchan Brothers Auto & Towing to a property on Colden Street in Jersey City.
During the company’s time on Colden Street, Anthony made a name for himself as a well-known towing icon in Jersey City, Hudson County, and the tri-state area as a whole. His one tow truck turned into a massive fleet of 20 trucks, and his one-man garage employed a staff of 26.
Truchan Brothers Auto & Towing soon held numerous prestigious accounts, including with AAA, the Jersey City Police Department, the Jersey City Parking Authority, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty State Park, to name a few.

While Anthony was growing his towing company, he was also growing his family. After marrying his wife Grace, the two had two daughters, Larissa and Amanda. Grace resigned from her job as a computer programmer on Wall Street to be a stay-at-home mom to raise their growing family.
In preparation for retirement after over 30 years in the auto and towing industry, Anthony made the difficult decision to close the auto repair business, focusing instead purely on towing, and began to dwindle down his accounts.
Sadly, Anthony unexpectedly passed away in April 2019. Despite never driving a tow truck or even changing a tire in her life, Anthony’s dedicated and loyal wife, Grace, stepped up to the plate and took over full ownership and management of his towing company.
Grace, a 21-year breast cancer survivor, took on the business just like she took on her cancer — with grit, determination, and a willingness to see the company not only survive, but thrive in the future.

Informed by her past work on Wall Street, after only 11 months on the job, Grace managed to keep the business afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the hardest economic periods for small-businesses in U.S. history. Rather than following Anthony’s path of downsizing for retirement, she transformed Anthony’s towing company in all facets so as to ensure its current and future success.
Under Grace’s new management, the formal name of the towing company was changed from Truchan Brothers Auto & Towing, Inc. to Truchan Towing & Recovery, Inc. A well-maintained fleet of five tow trucks, and a dedicated and exceptionally trained team, underpin Truchan Towing & Recover’s ongoing expansion and success.
You can meet Grace in-person at Truchan Towing & Recovery’s office, located at 626 Communipaw Ave. in Jersey City, Monday through Friday from the hours of 8am to 5pm.
